The twin relationship continues through all ages and stages, even as the multiples grow into adulthood. How can parents be a support? Dr. Joan Friedman is ready to share information and guidance in our February Zoom Connect:
“Identity Issues, Conflicts & Intimacy in Adult Twin Relationship.” Wed., February 11, 7:30 p.m. Central (8:30 p.m. Eastern, 6:30 p.m. Mountain, 5:30 p.m. Pacific).
“Adult twin attachments can be developmentally challenging for some twin pairs and their families,” explains Dr. Friedman. “The expectation of lifelong closeness, equality, and fairness can be understandingly impacted by changes in romantic partners, identity concerns, and independent decision making. These expectable life transitions may cause considerable conflict between twins as well as their families.”
A gifted psychotherapist, identical twin, and parent of fraternal twin sons, Dr. Joan A Friedman is uniquely qualified, professionally and personally, to educate twins and their families through the experiences and emotional needs they encounter. Twin development is very much her personal journey and professional specialty.
Dr. Friedman is also the author of Emotionally Healthy Twins: A New Philosophy for Parenting Two Unique Children, and The Same but Different: How Twins Can Live, Love, and Learn to Be Individuals. Twins in Session: Case Histories in Treating Twinship Issues, is a book written for psychotherapists and educators who require specialized knowledge and insight about twin psychology. Her latest book is Beyond the Bond, a developmental compilation of twin psychology.
